Do not confuse kindness with niceness.

Niceness comes from playing by the rules and hiding behind the expected.

Kindness comes from the depths of a wise and compassionate soul, no matter the rules or expectations.

Given the choice, I choose kindness.

  1. What a powerful photo! Talk about a picture saying a thousand words….
Great distinction regarding kindness and being nice!

  2. Beautiful distinction you draw. A quote I cherish (can’t remember who said it) is, “One of the things I most regret in my life is failures of kindness.”

  3. I am reminded of how Nietzsche articulates the notion of morality; “Morality is the herd-instinct in the individual.” It seems synonymous to how you define niceness. “
